Unexpected Discovery

Several years ago, I got the opportunity to spend a morning in a wooded area near Rochester, Washington. I was drawn in by the wind gently blowing through the trees, the pops of color I could glimpse, and the faint sound of running water. As I followed the sound of the water, I stumbled upon a flower I had only seen in a book as a child. There, across a babbling stream, was an almost glowing white Trillium!
I was so excited to set up my camera that I almost fell into the stream I had to cross to shoot it. For a moment, I could only sit in silence and admire its beauty and softness. After I got the shots I wanted, I wandered further into the wood, and all of a sudden, I was snapping pictures of almost everything I could get into focus. I forgot about the damp, cold air until my hands were too cold to hold my camera. Only then did I notice I was out of space on my memory card, and the batteries on my camera were almost dead.
What I learned from that morning was:
- Always dress for the weather!
- Always take extra memory cards and batteries (even for a short session).
- The world is ever-changing and full of beauty that is right before our eyes, and we must strive to discover it each and every day! Lois Hall
